Persistence in Prayer (Luke 18)

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“Today I’d like to talk about prayer but particularly, ‘persistence’ in prayer. You know the ‘old timers’ would often declare, “We need to storm the gates of heaven, bind Satan and pray until God hears you.” Well I believe there’s some truth in that statement; however, much has been said down the years regarding persistence in prayer and sometimes for the wrong reasons. Having studied the scriptures for a little bit; I firmly believe that God’s ability to intervene in our lives is greatly impacted by our personal prayer life or lack thereof. This may seem an obvious statement but let me put it to you another way; I truly believe Gods ability to move in our lives can be ‘restricted’ by our prayer life. Therefore, if we’re not diligent in some areas, we can miss out on seeing God’s best come to pass in our lives. Firstly, we have to realize that God’s not deaf. He hears us the first time when we ask Him for something. When Jesus said in Matt 7:7 and Luke 11:19, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you,” he wasn’t urging us to repeat the same petition over and over again. He was stressing that we need to be persistent in our intentions when it comes to prayer and don’t quit until we get an answer.” – Pastor Carl

The history of the King James Bible

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“William Tyndale was strangled and burned for translating the Bible into English…why? Because he made the bold declaration to a Catholic clergyman that, “If God will spare my life, ere many years pass, I will cause a boy that drives the plow, shall know more of the Scripture than you do.” Tyndale was born on the Welsh Border between England and Wales in 1494. This brave man was of course the first to translate the New Testament into English from the original Greek text. We owe so much to William Tyndale because Tyndale’s Biblical translation accounts for an astonishing 84% of the New Testament and more than 75% of the Old Testament, compared to the King James Bible. When King James XI of Scotland became the King of England and adopted the name ‘James the first,’ in 1611, the ‘King James Bible’ was finally instigated. He commissioned 47 scholars to scour the original Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic texts, translating the Bible to the best of their ability. The very best translators, scribes and scholars were employed, taking advantage of more than 5,556 manuscripts available at the time. ‘The King James Bible’ was the crowning achievement of the Protestant Reformation and remains the paragon of all Bible translations to this very day because the underlying Greek text differs from all other ‘Modern Translations.'” – Pastor Carl

Are you serving God or money?

Here’s a teaching snippet:

No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon“. Now these are Jesus words in Mt 6:24. In Aramaic, (the language that many people believe Jesus spoke), the word for money or wealth is called mammon. In two instances Matthew 6:24 and Luke 16:13, “mammon” is identified as a rival to God for the loyalty of the disciples and the same warning is pertinent to us today. Jesus asks us—”who will you obey: God or money?” It’s impossible to serve this god called “mammon” and the true Yahweh God at the same time. The New Testament calls money, “uncertain riches” for a reason. They’re so labeled because they cannot be trusted, but God can and He offers the greatest return of investment of all when we sow into His Kingdom! In 1 Timothy 6:17, the Apostle Paul warns the rich not to be ‘high minded’,” 17 Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy.” This word ‘high-minded’ in the modern vernacular really means ‘arrogant’ and there’s potential for the rich to become arrogant because they have so much money at their disposal.” – Pastor Carl

Which bible should I read?

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“There are 217 modern day English translations of the Bible and one of the questions I’m often asked down the years is, “Pastor, which one of these Bible versions truly represents the word of God?” …Now that’s a great question. I will start out by saying that God can use any translation of the Bible for His glory; He can even use inferior paraphrased versions in some cases to get His point across. However, there’s only one Bible version that hasn’t been corrupted by modern scholars but it will take me some time to explain which one it is and why I believe so. Heck we know God can lead someone to Christ with one sentence from any Bible; that’s the power of the Holy Spirit in action. The Bible says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Timothy 3: 16-17). But the question then becomes, which Bible translation in our possession today is truly regarded as ‘Holy Scripture’?” – Pastor Carl

Does God work in mysterious ways?

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“There is a rumor out there, that God works in mysterious ways, heck, even the Bible says He does. Well, the word ‘mysterious’ is not found anywhere in the Authorized King James Version of the Bible. In fact, no-one knows exactly; where this statement that, ‘God works in mysterious ways,’ actually comes from. Maybe this scripture is where it comes from Rom 11:33, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!” So does the Bible really say that God works in mysterious ways, and what does that really mean? Now, it’s certainly true that to our natural mind God’s ways may appear mysterious. Even what He commanded His people to do doesn’t always make sense to our natural minds when we read the Old Testament. For example, why would Joshua and the children of Israel have to march around the walls of Jericho seven times in a week before the walls fell, after they blew the trumpets? Why did God tell Moses to lift up his staff, and only then would the Red Sea part?” – Pastor Carl

Are curses real?

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“When most people think of curses, they think of fantasy, something that isn’t real. Perhaps Harry Potter comes to mind or maybe it’s something that only people with ‘pointy hats’ and ‘black cats’ are involved in. To our westernized mindset, rooted in Greek culture, curses are merely for ‘superstitious folk’ or the ignorant but not for sophisticates who order ‘Chai Lattes’ and don’t spare the ‘double shot.’ But the truth is that curses are very real because the Bible says they are. Not only that, we know from Scripture that invisible forces exist, blind to the naked eye, working behind the scenes for both good and evil. There are several dimensionalities all around us in which both angels and demons reside. The Apostle Paul provides key insight to these dimensionalities in his Epistles and we will study them today” – Pastor Carl

The Dangers of Theosophy

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“Theosophy means, “wisdom of God” or “divine wisdom.” It’s an odd combination of several things, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Spiritualism and Gnosticism because its founder was heavenly influenced by all these religions in her travels. Though this cult uses Christian terminology to communicate mystical Eastern concepts to a Western audience, it vehemently opposes every major tenet of biblical Christianity as I will explain shortly. Now the modern movement of Theosophy began in the 19th century through the efforts of Helena Petrova Blavatsky. She is without doubt, the most influential person in the Occult Sciences of the 19th Century. She was born in the Ukraine in 1831, with the name von Hahn-Rottenstern and was a very sensitive child, often sleep-walking and suffered from hallucinations. At an early age Helena became interested in black magic and the occult and this lady is now infamous within occult circles.” – Pastor Carl

Purge Yourself

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“Your faith won’t go further than your understanding of God’s word. An absence of knowledge about a subject in the bible leads to doubt. Once you have a ‘hint of doubt’, then your ability to believe in God’s promises will be hindered in some way. Once you understand God’s word, your faith will rise in the glorious God we serve and your doubt will dissipate rapidly. Once you have understanding, you’ll better be able to trust God for specific areas in your life. Friend, a faith that’s not practical is no faith at all. We need to make sure the promises of God leap from the pages of our bibles and into our hearts. Once His word abides within us, we may better appropriate these promises in our lives. When the word of God abides in you, get ready to see God move powerfully in your life (John 15:7). ” – Pastor Carl

Testing vs. Trial

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“Did you know that God tests us and it’s scriptural for Him to do so? There’s a tendency for some Christians to think every kind of opposition in their life is ‘from the devil,’ when in fact it could be the Lord refining, chastening or correcting their character issues which need to be addressed. Not every opposition is ‘a work of the devil.’ Yes we need to be cognizant of our enemy’s schemes and devices certainly but we’re also in a perpetual process of being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ. We need to know the difference between God’s ‘testing’ and Satan’s ‘trials’ or ‘sifting.’ We must be scripturally balanced and realize that after we’re born again and saved by faith in Christ, we automatically enter into a process of sanctification. During this process God purges away our old habits, so that we’re able to experience more freedom in Christ and finally conquer habitual sin in our lives. Because our God loves us so much, He won’t leave us in our current condition.” – Pastor Carl

The Dangers of Transhumanism

Here’s a teaching snippet:

“There’s a strange movement today that seeks eternal life without going through the Savior. This movement seeks to utilize the very latest technologies to enhance man under the banner of ‘Transhumanism.’ Now why on earth is a Pastor even talking about this in the first place you might ask? Well let me tell you, like I said before, no topic is off the table here at DHOP and especially topics that attack the divinity of Christ, providing a false means to salvation, but sending men into eternal damnation instead. These topics I will talk about and unfortunately ‘transhumanism,’ falls into this category of falsity, as you will shortly find out. Now Mr. Buckminster Fuller was famous for creating the “Knowledge Doubling Curve”; and he noticed that until 1900, human knowledge doubled approximately every century. By the end of World War II, however, knowledge was doubling every 25 years. But on average according to Fuller, human knowledge today is doubling every 13 months!” – Pastor Carl
