I Saw the Light
Have you ever tried to explain something to an individual and it seemed as though they’re just not getting it? You want them to understand what you’re trying to say and convey your message clearly. Eventually, as you give them more information, they start to see the whole picture and might even say something along the lines of, ‘Oh, I see what you’re saying’! In this instance, you might say the “light bulb” finally came on for them! What happened here? What does it mean when someone says, ‘I can see it now’?
God’s Word Illuminates
God’s word gives us the answer to these questions. In Proverbs 20:27 it says, “The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the inner depths of his heart” (NKJV). Other translations say it like this: “the spirit of man is the flashlight or candle of the Lord”. You see, God sheds light in an area so we can clearly see what He wants us to see. He reveals things to our heart, or in other words our spirit. God speaks to us today and wants to reveal or shed light on our future and the path we are to take in life. Proverbs 4:18 says: “But the path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day” (NKJV). God is not trying to make it hard for us by hiding His plans for our future. In fact He is very excited to reveal them so we won’t miss it! He’s the one explaining things to us and waiting for the light to ‘come on’. How does God give us more information and light? He has revealed it in His word; we simply have to read it. Psalm 119:130 says: “the entrance of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (NKJV). This means the more we read God’s word, the brighter our lamp is going to get. Not only will we be able to see more clearly, but also what’s to come.
The Holy Spirit enlightens our understanding through our spirit-man
The apostle Paul prayed for believers’ in the New Testament that they would see with their spiritual eyes and be enlightened to know things by the spirit of God. In Ephesians 1:16-18 he said this: “16 I cease not giving thanks for you and making mention of you in my prayers: 17 I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him. 18 The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know the hope of His calling” (KJV). God is going to give us revelation by enlightening our understanding from within. The ‘eyes of our understanding’ is something we see deeply within our spirit, this is a knowing from our heart. Now the word revelation in this verse simply means to ‘reveal’ or ‘uncover’ something. Getting a revelation of something is basically seeing what was hidden from you that you didn’t see before, or something you may have been in the dark about. God’s Holy Spirit living on the inside of us, is revealing and showing God’s plans, purposes and pursuits for our lives. The Holy Spirit is lighting us up on the inside with spiritual wisdom and understanding so we can see the things He has for us to do in this lifetime.
God’s will for our lives is not mysterious
In times past, the Lord has given me a simple word that would change my direction in life and set me on the right course. It was as if He just suddenly turned on the light in an area and revealed to me what was not seen before. He reveals his plans for us by simple turning on the light inside of us and illuminating things. People will try to discourage you and say ‘you can’t hear from God’, or even know what God is doing, and we can’t figure out the mysterious will of God for our lives. But 1 Corinthians 2:9-10 says: “eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him. But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit” (KJV). Did you notice the last sentence? He has revealed them to us! God is revealing His wisdom and plans our lives; we must listen and keep our spiritual eyes open to see what those plans are! Our eyes should see and our ears should hear what God has prepared for us because He loves us! This my friends, should not be a mysterious thing.
It’s time for your light bulb to turn on
Jesus, referring to the Holy Spirit said ‘He would show us things to come’, in John 16:13. Friends, if you are stumbling around in a dark room right now, and can’t see where to go or know if you’re even on God’s path, simply flip on the light switch by reading God’s word. It will light up the inside of you and you’ll begin to clearly see what you didn’t before! By reading His word daily and listening to the Holy Spirit you will stay on God’s successful path for your life and He will provide illumination each and every step of the way.
